As for your heroes, be aware of much more.
You mean about their yardage being higer? I pretty much expect that, and I expect their intensity of training to be much higer as well.
I'm still just a beginner here, don't even have a full year under my belt. And my physical condition, even though drastically better then when I started still has a very long way to go.
But, that;s just the normal progression of it, you can beat up and challenge the body, and it will keep improving - at it's own pace.
Judging from the past and another sport roughly 10 years ago, it takes me about 2 years to get in a really good shape, and perhaps another year to get in a real athletic shape.
One thing that I have to watc is overtraining, I have a tendency to push too hard and overtrain. My coach knows this, and, ugh, suggests a day off every now and then.
As for my heroes, my friend, she can squeeze a 4000 Y workout in less than an hour. It takes me an hour and a half.
She did just over 4700Y in the one hour postal. I was 1200 yards behind that.
She's got NQT's for all events!
The funny part is that she is all of 5-foot-five-inches tall. You dunk her in the pool, and she turns into a damn barracuda, I swear!
She tells me in highschool she swam on the same team with her six-foot-four brother, and had to be able to get away form him chasing her heels in practice. And tells me about the grueling 15,000 Yard a day practices in College.
Shes got a 'Janet Evans' looking stroke.
She nags me about needing to take more days to rest, and I tease her, why? You worried I'm gonna catch ya? ;)
