It seems as though "the regulars" here are a social lot. Would it be possible to start a new forum, the purpose of which is just social, non-swimming chatter. That would leave this forum for general swimming discussions, which is its designation and give specific forum for the socializing that is also one of the nice parts of master's swimming. It might also be a nice way to bring in some of the people who lurk and read but never post. -LBJ

I can see "Shakys" argument and that could happen. The problem that i see happening with the " chat style " threads is that they push down the other threads off the front page very quickly. There are threads where someone asks for help with some aspect of their swimming, maybe their arm action, breathing etc. This type of thread needs to be visible for long enough for a number of people to see it and give feedback. The chat style threads are usually very short, one recently had just 1 letter in it. Three or 4 can appear in the same day, and they end up moving " serious " posts down the list more quickly than used to happen 1 year ago. Right now if you leave 1 week between checking in some threads will have disappeared of the front page and be down on page 2 or 3. Having a forum just for "Chat" could work, they do it on the UK site and both it and the " General " forum get enough traffic. Reallly with me, it comes down to the amount and frequency of the "chat style" threads. By their very nature, they are rapid, short posts and I do not think that they co-exist very well on the "General" forum with the threads of people looking for help. Just my 2c worth. :)
