Just an update, Big 12 championchips were this weekend. Crocker went a 19.18 in the 50 and (yawn) a 44.72 in the 100 fly. IF he tapered he would have been the first man to swim a 50 in less than 19. Probably would have gone a 43 in the 100 fly. I was disappointed because he can only swim 4 relays and terefore elected to lay off the 800 free relay. He will be swimming the 100 free tomorrow.

Texas the Wonder Chicken?
Sound like "big" talk. Texas will be favored in the 400 medley relay but Auburn will give them a good race in the 200 medley and in any case Texas will need to haul to beat them in any case.
Reese and Marsh are both great coaches so expect them both to be ready to race.
BTW, will short course meters make a difference?
If we're going to swim meters then shouldn't it be long course meters so that times will count for Olympic Trials?
The American Record in the 200 meter medley relay is 1:34.66 and that was done by Texas at the NCAA meet in 2000. The World Record is 1:34.46 by Germany in December 2003. The American Record in the 400 meter medley relay is 3:29.00 and the World Record is 3:28.12 by Australia in Septmber 2002.
The USA team with those three plus Jason Lezak went 3:31.54 at the Worlds in Barcelona for a World Record and that was Long Course. So it looks like the the old records might be broken.
As long as Texas is convinced Mack Brown and Rick Barnes are the answers to any questions, they are not allowed to participate in grown up conversations.

Sorry, couldn't resist, Aggie relatives.
Ohhh, that explains it. Why didn't you mention you had Aggie blood earlier, I would have come to my conclusions about you much sooner.

Are you serious. Texas will smash the world record in both medly relays, with Aubrun or Stanford WAY behind.
Don't count out Cal. They swam a 1:25.16 which was faster than either Texas or Auburn swam at their conference meets (where Texas was DQed, by the way).
You'd think with 55K plus students, or thereabouts, Texas could eventually win some national championship. Maybe if they invite Mack Brown to roam the side of the pool they could pull a big choke.
Sorry, couldn't resist, Aggie relatives.

Are you serious. Texas will smash the world record in both medly relays, with Aubrun or Stanford WAY behind. Texas' margin in the 200 medly will be atleast a full second. It was a half second last year with crocker doing frestyle. Aubrun should still win the meet though, and in the end that is all that really matters.
Short course meters vs short course yards shouldn't make a difference to anyone. All of these athletes are in superior condition.
Folks,
Didn't mean to kick off a three way war between Texas, Auburn and A&M fans. Really, I am a Univ. of Michigan alum, so I don't give a rodent's rear-end who among those three wins the relay, especially if the winner breaks the World Record. (The AUSSIES have a World Record in the MEDLEY relay? Puh-lease! I can see the freestyle relays, but a medley. No, I'm sorry, that will not do at all. Hopefully the Longhorns, or the War Eagles, or the Golden Bears, or the Cardinal, or... maybe even the Golden Gophers will do something about that sad state of affairs.)
I just look at what appear to be the facts, to wit: three stroke swimmers; two of them are World Record holders, one is also an Olympic medalist for the stroke he is swimming, the other is the defending World Champion in his stroke. The third guy is only a repeat World Championship medalist in his stroke, and one of the two dominant swimmers in the entire U.S. (let alone the NCAA) in this stroke in the last 3 years. I don't see how any other team in the competition is going to match even one of these guys, let alone all three. Ion could anchor this relay team, and they would still win the race. (OK, OK, I'm exagerating, but only a little.)
Matt
1) Texas wasn't tapered
2) Texas did not use Piersol
3) Crocker swam the Free Leg
If the meet were in yards, Texas would go a 1:23.5 this year.
But Yeah, Cal was fast.
