I think this would be an interesting story even if it were not about my Dad.
He grew up in New York during the Depression and taught himself to swim by watching the old Tarzan movies. He swam for fitness much of his adult life, but never had any formal training or competed. After my mother died a few years ago, I suggested he join USMS, which he did last year.
He began training more seriously, got some coaching, started lifting weights, swam intervals. The result? He posted top ten scm times for the 80-84 age group in the 200 m and 1500 m free. He continues to work out daily, gradually increasing his yardage and working on technique.

GO DAD!!
I think that's really cool!! U be good to him- my dad's just been diagnosed with cancer- and having lost my mum to the big c as well, I've (again) been reminded just how precious parents- and life- can be!
