6' 1/2" (down from 6' 1" in my youth--I'm shrinking) and 178 lb (up from 164 in my youth--I'm fattening.) If these trends continue, I should become a perfect sphere sometime in the year 2287.
Thanks for this interesting thread. I'm 5'10" plus a cm or two. I weigh between 155 and 160, depending on when I weigh in. I have lost some height - I'm 59 and aging up in a few months (after SC nationals and before LC Nationals). As long as I keep swimming my weight will stay in the above range. If I don't swim for a prolonged period I will gain weight. Weight, at least for me, is not something constantly on my mind, except I know it affects my ability to swim fast: my ideal competition weight is 155-160.
Right now I'm probably in as good condition as I've been in for the last 2-3 years. I've been doing weights for the last four months and it really hasn't had an effect on my weight even though I'm adding muscle weight/strength. My diet is pretty much the same as it has been: complex carbs supplemented with chicken, fish or red meat 2-3 times a week.
'ability to swim fast: my ideal competition weight is 155-160."
What an interesting idea- ideal competition weight... Is there a way to figure out what one's weight should be for competition? (that might give me some impetus to diet ;))
peace...
Well, in my youth I was about 5'3"and 3/4 during most of my swimming career. As an adult am a heavyweight around 185 to 190 and only 5'4",no wonder I've slowdown several seconds in swimming. But about 5 years ago I was 216. I just let myself get fatter and fatter. One reason to return to the swimming.
