need to get a bit faster

Hello fellow swimmers out there: l have returned to swimming after about 3 years and after a bit of strugle, l was able to get back in shape. l started doing Sprint Triathlons and did very well in my age group of 50-54 year olds. l am 52 and 132 lb and feel real good. My question is: l seem to be stuck on swimming a mile on about 30-35 min and l really need ( or wish ) to be able to do it about 5 min faster!! l am doing the Chicago Triathlon this coming August and l want to take advantage of the fact that the swim part of it is my best event. l rely mostly on my arms for speed so l need to know if there is anything l can do to add to this, like kicking faster maybe? l don't kick to fast when l swim distance, so maybe l should do it? l don't know, if you have some advice on this matter l would appreciate this very much. Sincerely Maria A. Rodriguez

i read an article on this thing with kicking ,it was to do with strengthening the"return"muscles of the kick!!!!now it goes something like this: to strengthen the return kick muscles from doing a stroke like front crawl(free) what you have to do is incorporate some backstroke kicking into your training sets, now what this apparently does is get them muscles that after a kick return your legs to the position ready for kicking again, strengthened.if all you practice is kicking whilst on your front only, then the muscles that kick will be much stronger than the recovery muscles(the ones that return leg to original position)apparently this can reduce times, considerably in some people, good luk;)
