mattson ... So the ideal technique is to have a balanced stroke, so you are equally strong with both hands - not forgetting that it is best to be done on the sides - never front or back..

Well, first come the butterflies...
Then there's the breaststroking...
Backstroke might come next, depending on how you're seeded...
and you finish with freestyle.
It's sort of a mixed medley, but you can improvise.
Um, does that help? ;)

But seriously... it's all in the technique!

The correct answer is YES. The only variable is number of swims for the following day, as they should correspond to the frequency of SEX the night preceeding. The pentathalon ot Oak Harbour each year damn near killed me... and then I entered he distance component...I have become a monk...

Didn't Dave Wottle have sex with his wife like 15-20 minutes before winning the 800 meters? He had a smile during the whole race:D

I think I've read that, too. I wonder how close to the time of competition it needs to be done? This could give a whole new meaning to the term "warmup." ;)
Because my last swim meet was 27 years ago in high school, I haven't faced this issue in a while. But my first masters meet is this weekend, and I can't seem to discern the consensus opinion here.
So is pre-meet sex recommended, or not? With another? Or is that perhaps too advanced for the new competitor, for whom a solo interlude is preferable? Will I hurt my shoulder? Should I train first? Do I need a new Fastskin II? It's a 2 day event; do I have to do it both days?
:D
