Hi there....
I've been swimming for about 4 1/2 years, 4-6 times per week. I just found out that I'm pregnant (about 3 weeks along) and I was wondering if anyone out there can offer any advice as to whether or not I can continue my regular schedule. I'm suffering from "morning sickness" but I find that swimming actually helps.
What about continuing through the 2nd and 3rd trimesters? I've noticed some women at the pool I swim at checking their heart rate(?)
Has anyone out there competed during pregnancy?!
Thanks!:)
My advice is to listen to your own body, and if it feels okay to swim and compete, then swim and compete (with OB's okay, of course.) ]
During my two pregnancies, my body told me to SWIM!!!!! And I did so and felt great. During the seventh month of my first, I even did the Brute Squad (200 fly, 400 IM, and 1650 free) in Denver. I had been doing this for some years prior, so maybe the brute squad is not something that you want to start at this time. However, if you have been competing before you got pregnant, you should be able to continue to do so after you get pregnant.
Even more important than swimming during pregnancy is to continue swimming after the kids are born. If they see Mom swim all throughout their lives, then they think that is what all Mom's do... and they will, naturally, want to swim also. Now, both of my kids (ages 17 and 19) are absolutely outstanding swimmers, and looks like they will be swimmers for life...... the tradition continues!!!!!
Congratulations and Good Luck!!!!
