I used some proper lycra TYR swimshorts tonight and i think i cut about 10% off my times,i normally use baggy swim shorts with a lot of drag.Really impressed with these.

I know what you mean. I started swimming seriously this year (New Year's resolution). At first, I felt I needed to lose some weight before I wore a competition style suit. I was shocked how much difference it made. I wish I had started from the begining.
I wear a drag suit on top of my racing suit for practice, sometimes take it off at the end of practice if we're doing a fast set then. This way you get the extra drag for your practice, but can feel the difference when you go fast. Depending on the person, the drag suit can make a big difference.

I used to use my jammer for competition only and used a baggy suit during practice...mainly for the drag aspect. I now use my jammer during workouts. I take about 8 seconds off my 200 free intervals using the slick suit.
