I was looking around the usa swimming website, and I found the top 100 10-12 yr old boys and girls, and 13-14 yr old boys and girls.

go to that site, and scroll to the bottom and look for short yard course. for these 10-12 yr old boys, some were doing a 50 free at 22 seconds! and 13-14, some are going 20 seconds. I just thought I'd ask to see what you thought about these kids, and them going that fast at such a young age. I'll admit, I'm jelous

Yikes. Makes me feel slow - or old - or maybe both!:(
WOW! In the 80's, I remember A times being in the mid 20's, but 22! What are they feeding these kids?
JC, I think most people would be jealous. I am more than impressed too.

Oldest top 100 time,Brain Goodell, 85th place in the 13-14 boys 1650- 30 years ago in 1974! 38th place in 200 yard butterfly for 13 to 14 year old boyds, Dennis Baker in 1976- a master's top swimmer in the 40 to 44 year old age group.
I have a 15 year old boy and a 10 year old girl in swimming and attend a lot of age group meets, and yes these kids are really fast. A lot of them that are that fast are very big for their age, but others are just pure talent in the water and very fun to watch.
When my son was 10, I timed at the YMCA state meet during finals, and only the 8 year old kids were not taller than me. With the exception of my son who was a little squirt, the 10 year olds and up were taller than me at 5-4. My son finally passed me last year!
