It costs me more in time than anything. I live in Forest Hills, Queens. There is a pool at the YMHA down the road. Costs $500 a year. Travel time is 10 minutes. I opted not to join because it's hard to get your laps in. It's mostly crusty old men floating in the pool. So I was going to a community college pool with limited lap hours. Ditto the YMCA. These places are always too crowded. At the moment, I'm taking a break from swimming. I might do it once a month for cardio. That's it. And I'll pay $20 to swim at the Asphalt Green when I do get the itch to swim. I feel better now that I'm away from the pool. I'm jogging and doing stationary bike for cardio. One day a week I'm still doing the weights. I just put on a pair of sneakers and run. No schedule. No overcrowded lanes. NO KIDS!!!!!! I have more free time too. Today, I drove to the track, jogged 2.5 miles, and drove back home. I was home in an hour. A swim would've cost me 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Every so often, we need to change our workouts.
