I have checked this site for quite a while, it is a great resource for swimmers. The link is: http://www.swim.ee/index.html They have recently added a lot of new video clips. These have recently been organised to show technique / coaching tips. There are videos showing all 4 strokes and aspects of each: "high elbow", "kayak timing", "catch-up timing", entry, catch, pull etc and turns, starts & finishes. The swimmers profiled are all world class such as Thorpe, Hackett, Lezak, Hoogie, Popov and more. I have just watched a video clip showing Mark Foster, UK, swimming freestyle which is exquisite in it's detail. This is filmed in slow motion and shows a wealth of points of good technique. So if you have a fast connection and lots of spare time you can learn a lot !

Those videos are a big aid. I think the next big thing will be for masters teams to post videos of their swimmers on their team web sites so team members can download them and evaluate what they need to work on. This would be helpfull because you can look at yourself, and then compare yourself with the best in the world.

Gareth et al, It obviously pays dividends to look at videos of other swimmers. But I would love to be able to see myself swimming on video so as to assess my style. How many people actually manage to get themselves videoed so that they can do this??And also how does one go about getting it done??

Mark, Sorry for the delay in answering your question but i do have good news for you. I have spoken to Ian Wollard, the masters coach at Barnet Copthall swim club. If you contact him directly then he can arrange a video session for you. They do this in the dive tank and they can do over and underwater video. His email is: ian@barnetcopthall.com The website is : www.barnetcopthall.com I have entered their 1500m meet for next sunday. I am not sure what the time of my heat is. If you are able to come along, i am sure that you would enjoy the experience. I am running a video clinic for my swimmers on tuesday night, above water only. A bit far for you to come tho. BTW. Your profile as set up does not allow private messages to be sent to you. This post should have been sent as a private message !

Gareth, Thanks for your help in giving me the contact name at Barnet Copthall for the videoing. As I have now left the Masters club at Beckenham I am starting to try and devise some meaningful drills and training for myself, mostly based on Cecil Colwyn's books.I feel that just by seeing myself on video when I swim will help me see where I need to concentrate my efforts.I am going to be in Sheffield on Saturday afternoon(at a football match) and I am seroiusly thinking of maybe hanging around Saturday night/Sunday to see the Masters event. If I can't get there to cheer you on then I will wish you good luck now for the 1500 metres. Good Luck, Mark

Mark, The swim meet is not in Sheffield. It is in London at the Barnet Copthall centre, Gt Northen way, Hendon. I will be there from 5pm this Sunday. The event is also taking place on saturday from 5pm - 8pm.
