When you read how some people in Swim Magazine can swim so much yardage at top speeds and you can barely do 3,000 yards in a day going moderate to some speed work without feeling sore and tired later.
The key is that, for those swimmers, it is not *their* top speed.
My pet peeve is when the faster swimmers start reducing the interval for sets. If the rest is long, I can always speed up my swim (to take advantage of the extra recovery). If the rest is too short, all it does is train me to swim exhausted at 3/4 speed.
