you might need to try a different type of goggle. I switched from a Speedo with a plastic gasket around my eyes after a plastic surgeon commented that the skin around my eyes was starting to break down. Being female--this was disturbing. I switched to a Barracuda with a postitive pressure foam eye gasket. Result--no further breakdown of skin, very little leakage AND I can wear the goggles for as long as I want. They stay on virtually with the strap so I don't have to tighten it down to the point of getting a headache.
PS--the only way you can tell I've worn goggles is during the summer when the UV protection prevents the skin covered by the goggles from tanning! For all anyone knows--you could have been wearing sunglasses while tanning!
I had circles too until I bought the Barracudas. It took four months to get them adjusted properly so they didn't leak, but I no longer had circles.
Finally I got them to stop leaking, but by then the anti-fog coating had worn off from all the leaking water. So it took me another month or so to figure out a way to keep them from fogging. (My spit doesn't work.)
I enjoyed a couple of months of leak and fog free swimming. Then I took a week off, and when I came back they leaked again. Now I can't find the *#$#^$ wrench to adjust them.
After all that, I would still recommend them. BUT you must exercise great patience. Mine have come quite close to being destroyed on more than one occasion.
The allure is that once you get them adjusted properly, they're quite comfortable, more comfortable than most goggles out there. There's no "getting used to the pain" as there is with other goggles.
You just have to maintain a zen-like calm until you finally get them adjusted and avoid smashing them against the pool deck. I think they charge so much for them not because they should cost any more than other goggles, but so that people using them will pause to think about how much they paid for them and won't destroy them.
when you spent close to $30 for a pair--you tend to think twice before mistreating your Barracudas!
For those of you overseas=---do a google search for Barracuda goggles or try the following website(I am not a dealer or seller of these products!)
www.barracudausa.com
I also see an address of www.skylinenw.com
In terms of US $--They were running as low as $21.00 for the Medalist (which is withPositive Pressure) to $73.50 for their Premier Optical Grade.
They are located in Oregon. In fact--it's hard to find them in most stores, except high end ones, as they can last for years and most stores want repeat customers.
The addresses above are "factory-direct". They also have a repair service for those of us dumb enough to use alcohol to clean the lens (and then have the lens glue come apart!). They can also refurbish a beloved pair OR provide (for $) replacement kits for the pads & straps that you can do yourself.
It does take a few sessions to get the fit "right"--the postive pressure pads adjust to your face--DON'T LEND THEM TO ANYONE!!!
I'm a convert to TYR Racetch goggles. No rings and quite inexpensive ($9/pair).
Can someone explain the Baracude goggles? They are really expensive and all I ever hear is about their leaking. What's the allure?
great or so i thought, ultimate barracudas online for20$,thats only about 15 pounds(english money)but when shipping internationally the carriage cost is 35$ so i tried searching for uk sites to accomodate my newfound need for proper fitting snug barracudas with all the trimmings and guess what?SPEEDO.SPEEDO,SPEEDO,SPEEDOAND MORE *****SPEEDO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!not any so far can i find,my eyes are getting dreery with all this searching and swimming with speedo goggles..any uk or even europe sites for barracudas would be gratefully accepted...or i'll have some overtime to do to pay for shipping which means less time swimming...thanx in advance
do you have any friends in the US or traveling to the US who could purchase the desired pair and either bring them to you or ship to you? I know the shipping is expensive (ran me about $8) but $35+ is awful!
You might have to do a little research and find WHO sells them independently of the manufacturer. Not all swim shops, where you can just walk in, sell the Barracudas.
