For the past few days, Kelowna a city of100,000plus (also a large and active Masters swimming community) has been threatened by a large forest fire. This morning I watched the news & learned that 30,000 people had been evacuated yesterday (with little or no warning, the fire moved that fast) as the fire entered the southeastern third of the city. Another 8000 are on 1 hour notice.
Please send your hopes & prayers in their direction for safety, rain & no more wind. The next two days are critical.
I thought if any group could send wet thoughts it would this one.

The smoke here in Kelowna on some days is very much like the fog in Victoria durning the winter. Today it is clear in our end of the city but Yesterday I could not see across the street. Some of the 40,000 have been allowed back but most have not,the fire is now about 200sq km's, the loss of homes now stands at 248 and if it was not for the great actions of all the Firefighters from all over the country as well as the Armed Forces etc the count could be in the 1,000's. We can all be gratefull that no loss of life has occured and pray it stays that way. We have not seen any measureable rain since January and with the low snow pac we had over the winter in the mountians the area is tinder dry.
Our club has a couple of swimmers out of their homes however none have loss their homes, not sure about the other two clubs in the city.
The last couple of days have been better for the fire as it cooled down, however the hot dry weather has returned today.
We are all praying for rain and the safty of all those fighting the fire as well as those fighting the close to 900 fires throughout the province.
