I was very surprised to see that David Davies only came third in the 400m free at the European Junior Championships, after he did so well in coming fourth in the 1500m free at the World Championships.

Mark, I thought that you would like at least 1 response ! I have been busy fighting the Management at my local pool. They have gone and raised the pol temperature to 30 degrees C !!!( around 88 ' F ) This of course makes swimming more than a few lengths impossible. I will have to pull my club out of there if I can't get them to change this crazy decision.
I have not seen the swim of David Davies, it probably was not televised. He probably peaked for the worlds and the european meet was too soon after for a good performance.
Hope your swimming is going well, will you be at Sheffield in Oct ?

At least David Davies won the 1500m free by 15 seconds. and came second in the 200m free.I doubt whether I will be at Sheffield in October,although I would love to be.I don't feel that my swimming has reached the level at which I would feel comfortable entering the event at Sheffield.Do you know if there is a qualifying time that swimmers have to reach before they are accepted for this event??
Just go and enter, you will have fun. There is no qualifying standard time. You will find that you are faster than some swimmers and slower than others.
The heats are worked so that you swim with others of similar times to you. So you could be competitive in your heat. Later the times are posted to show how you did in your age group.
It is great fun and by watching the better swimmers you may learn a lot about effective stroke technique.
Barnet Copthall have 3 masters meets this fall. A sprint meet, a middle distance and a 1500m meet. They should be good.
Enter the meets now, gain experience so thet you are more relaxed when you feel competitive. I put off entering meets for 3 years as i thought that I was too slow and quickly realised that I should have been there competing earlier.
