Conditioner for dead hair?

After reading Tom Ellison's brilliant discussion on VO2Max and hair cair :D , I am wondering what people are using to keep their hair from becoming straw. I did a search of threads, but they were either green hair or dry skin, not quite what I'm looking for. Wearing a cap during practice is impractical. I've been hit in the head a few too many times, so the cap isn't large enough to stay on. :p I'm guessing that most people will recommend UltraSwim or MalibuC (those were stocked at the local Kiefers). What I'm wondering is, are there any good products I would find in the *supermarket*. I saw a lot of products. Unfortunately, the packaging wasn't very, uh, manly.

I've had good results using a product called Inner Shampoo, which is available from Life Enhancement at: www.life-enhancement.com/.../product.asp I hadn't realized just how much it was benefiting me until I accidently allowed myself to run out of it and substituted a well-known store brand. I found that my hair had instantly become a mass of tangles, and I had to spend several minutes separating the tangles with my fingers before I could get a comb through it! But as soon as I went back to Inner Shampoo, my hair became its manageable self again. Inner Shampoo takes some getting used to, because it's a non-lathering shampoo, and you comb it into your hair and then rinse with a comb. But it works well!
