Conditioner for dead hair?

After reading Tom Ellison's brilliant discussion on VO2Max and hair cair :D , I am wondering what people are using to keep their hair from becoming straw. I did a search of threads, but they were either green hair or dry skin, not quite what I'm looking for. Wearing a cap during practice is impractical. I've been hit in the head a few too many times, so the cap isn't large enough to stay on. :p I'm guessing that most people will recommend UltraSwim or MalibuC (those were stocked at the local Kiefers). What I'm wondering is, are there any good products I would find in the *supermarket*. I saw a lot of products. Unfortunately, the packaging wasn't very, uh, manly.

wet the hair for a long time, and then rub in Alberto VO5 hairdressing formula. the problem with conditioning hair with a detangler or something before getting in, is that it will just rinse right out in the pool. The v05 hairdressing formual will not rinse out, but will shampoo out. It is inexpensive, and comes in a tube that isn't feminie at all--so you won't be embarrassed by the packaging. In fact, it's black, with a masculine gold color on it. Also, the cheaper brands of shampoo really are the best for removing chlorine...the reason is that they have more detergent in them, and it's also a little stronger than the more expensive brands. With the V05, you will not have chlorine soak into you hair anymore...and the "cheap" shampoo will remove any that did soak in. Maybe use it once a week. AGain, Alberto V05, extra body, is really good for this--and is only like a dollar. Afterwards though, it is imperitive to condition your hair, as the shampoo can promote some dryness--Pantene is the best drug store brand to buy, and you can purchase the extra moisturizing to get nice soft hair. Pantene has silicone in it, wich is excellent for repairing damage, smoothing the cuticle of the hair to make it shiny. Also, the Pantene bottle is really neutral. It's white, without flowers or any girly stuff on it. It's logo is also more technical looking than other brands. No embarrasement, and terrific hair! ;) Jerrycat
