.) in the 4x100 men free relay, Russia won;
the fastest split was by Frenchman Frederic Bousquet at 47.03 -which is the second fastest split in history-, and fast splits (in the 47s) were recorded by Alex. Popov (Rus.) and Jason Lezak (U.S.);
.) in the 4x100 women free relay, U.S. won, anchored by an ace 53.xx from Jenny Thompson (U.S.).

Phelps beats Hackett head-to-head in the 200 and sets a new US record! Also his swim was good enough for third place in the 200 earlier in the meet--not bad considering he just finished a 200 fly less than an hour ago. Wonder if Phelps is the first American to beat Hackett head-to-head? Wonder how Hackett feels right now?
Thorpe wins the relay for the Aussies with a pretty very good split. Keller swims a good leg. The problem for the US was in the middle. They had not confidence in Carvin or Dusing (if he did a 1:47 they win the relay) and must rely upon a backstroker. Peirsol is having a great meet but isn't trained or mentally ready to swim a 200 free.
Gosh I have to get back to work but just wanted to say one thing. Though he may not have trained specifically fo a 200 free, I am certain that Peirsol was physically ready to do the race. And I am absolutely certain that he was mentally ready. He split a 1:48.8, probably a life time best...
Omega live timing (I finally found it )

I know that Peirsol was physically in great shape. However, training for the 200 back is not the SAME as the 200 free. That's why you almost never see someone do a 200 free/200 back. Peirsol had a great swim under the circumstances but it is very disappointing to not have Dusing on the team since he has gone 1:47+ --maybe enough to win.
Thorpe looked huge. Put on a lot of weight, especially in the shoulders. Yet, he always covers his body with that bodysuit. Why doesn't he want anyone to see how muscular he keeps getting?
I went training at Beckenham in GB last night.The guy in the lane next to me was in awsome form.We came to the end of the session and both stopped at the end of the lane.I couldn't believe my eyes,THE GUY WAS THE EXACT DOUBLE OF IAN THORPE,no wonder he was so good.Maybe Thorpe has a double who swims alternate races for him,lol!!!!!!!!!:D
