There is a higher standard that each of us should strive for. When we talk of standards we talk in many different arenas. This discussion forum is one such arena. Calling one of my fellow USMS swimmers "ignorant" is well short of the mark and I sincerely apologize. Let me take a different approach Ion, one of humility and understanding. Each of us has the right to our own opinion. We even have the right to express our opinion in total contrast to the thoughts and beliefs of others. Gosh, we have the right to march to our own drum and be completely out of step with the entire human race if we so chose. But, when we express thoughts and beliefs that are so out of step with our fellow man, we now venture out into the field of fire where we often draw critical condemnation. Your views and thoughts regarding Matt Biondi being a flash in the pan have placed you squarely in the field of fire. Why, because every single person who knew Matt, read of Matt’s records and accomplishments, swam with and or against him, or watched him on television, know he is/was anything BUT a flash in the pan. Put another way, you are most likely the only man who has lived, will live, or ever hopes to live, that would refer to Matt Biondi as a flash in the pan. His swimming was nothing short of remarkable, great, spectacular, inspiring, and tremendous. He was world class in every single respect and to infer or say otherwise is considered insulting and degrading to a man who has given so much to our sport. Unless you enjoy being in the verbal or written field of fire I suggest you rethink your rock hard stance on this issue and move on to one that is more inclined to produce positive feedback. I do not know Matt Biondi and have never had the pleasure of meeting him, but, as a life long swimmer who knows and understands swimming greatness when I see it, I was offended by your posts! You are rocking a pillar or human foundation of United States Swimming when you refer to Matt Biondi as a flash in the pan. He is an icon of success in our sport.
