Hey gang! I'm sitting here inside, at the computer, because the late afternoon thunderstorm has closed my pool again! In the past week I've only been able to get in the pool once and the forcast is 40 to 60 percent chance of afternoon thunderstorms for the next 4 days. I had much the same senerio last week and could tell a difference when I got back in for my one workout this week. So what do you all do when something interferes with you workout and you can't get in the pool? :(

I know that it can be very frustrating!! But- out of curiosity- when you say that it is pouring, is it also thundering? Perhaps a dumb question, but I know that my pool won't close unless there is a lightning threat (one of my first ma. practices was during a dreadful and torrential rainfall - the coaches ran the practice from the safety of the lifeguard offices, running on deck only to shout out the sets...)
peace...
I've swam in the rain too! In fact the one swim I got in last week was in the rain... during my cool down it started to rain a bit harder. When I got even with the guard next to my lane I stopped and begged him not to blow us out until I finished my workout. He asked how many more laps I had and I said three. He laughed and said, "You'd better sprint!" He did wait for me to finish before he blew his whistle--such a sweetie pie!
In all seriousness, the guards close the pool under three weather conditions.
1. They can't see the bottom of the pool because it is raining so hard.
2. The lightening detector goes off (set to a 5 mile radius)
3. Even if the lightening detector doesn't go off they will close the pool if they HEAR thunder.
