Anyone up for a beer sometime during the Rutgers meet? We did this last summer in Cleveland, and it was great to meet face-to-face with folks I only knew from their forum posts.
I signed up today, at nearly the very last moment, despite not being in the greatest swimming shape. Nothing like a 50 m pool to make winter's short course meets seem like a dip in the baby pool.
One other note: I got an assignment to write about Masters swimming for Best Life magazine, a kind of older brother to Men's Health. If anyone out there knows of inspirational swimmers (males only--sorry, this is a men's magazine) that might be at the meet and good to write mini-profiles about, please let me know. I remember reading a great story about Paul Trevisan in the Philly Inquirer. From practically unable to walk due to a bad back--to world record holder. Anyone know if Paul is coming? Any other great guy comeback stories in the 50+ age groups?
Ion and Ian,
It would be wonderful to reprise our Great Lakes Brewery experience of yesteryear. Ion and I can bask in the greatness that is Ian, a number one in the world competitor! And surely given his magnificence, Ian might even consider springing for our goblets of grog?
I signed up for the 1500, which means almost half my total meterage will be over after the first day; I suspect much grog will be necessary to replenish carbohydrates, electrolytes, and swimming spirit broken down by this initial effort.
