Wayde Mulhern

It is with heavy hearts that we bring you the following very sad news. We learned Saturday, June 21 that Wayde E Mulhern passed away suddenly at his home in Blaine, MN. This has come as a shock to all who knew him. Wayde was a true Masters Swimmer, a coach, an organizer, Meet Director, and most of all a friend to all he touched. Masters swimming has lost a true champion and a great leader. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, June 24 at Christ Lutheran Church located at 641 89th Ave, Blaine, MN. There will be a visitation at 9:00 AM and a service at 10:00 AM. Memorials should be sent to Centennial High School for the Girls Swim Team in Memory of Coach Wayde Mulhern. Masters swimming will never be the same; however, we are all better off for having known Wayde. Next time you are in the water, swim a "belly-up" (backstroke) 50 for Wayde and smile - that is what he would want you to do!

Sarah, Could you (or other Minnesota Masters swimmers) tell us a little about Wayde's involvement and volunteer efforts with USMS? It seems like he had been the Minnesota LMSC Chairman forever. I know he had also recently held the offices of Treasurer and Sanctions Chair. If memory serves me correctly, he and Paul Windrath co-directed the 1993 LC Nationals in Minneapolis. What a great meet. We in Kansas City still talk about what a fun time we had there. Wasn't he also the meet director for the USMS Postal Pentathlon the last few years? I know he was something of a computer whiz, too. He started and maintained the Breadbasket Zone Meet records, I believe.
