It is with heavy hearts that we bring you the following very sad news. We learned Saturday, June 21 that Wayde E Mulhern passed away suddenly at his home in Blaine, MN.
This has come as a shock to all who knew him. Wayde was a true Masters Swimmer, a coach, an organizer, Meet Director, and most of all a friend to all he touched. Masters swimming has lost a true champion and a great leader.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, June 24 at Christ Lutheran Church located at 641 89th Ave, Blaine, MN. There will be a visitation at 9:00 AM and a service at 10:00 AM. Memorials should be sent to Centennial High School for the Girls Swim Team in Memory of Coach Wayde Mulhern.
Masters swimming will never be the same; however, we are all better off for having known Wayde. Next time you are in the water, swim a "belly-up" (backstroke) 50 for Wayde and smile - that is what he would want you to do!

Wayde and I introduced our selves to each other at the Canadian Nationals in the late 90s. We had recognize each other from previous Long Course Nationals and we finally met each other while racing in Ottawa. After that I only saw him once other time at the last LC Nationals in MN. He was one the Masters swimmers I became friends with who I would only see at Nationals since we lived in different states. Wadye had what I consider the rare ability to swim both quality backstroke and breaststroke. I always admired that in him since I am a breaststroker who can’t swim a good lick of back if I had to. Though I did not know him very well, I still considered him a friend and will miss not see him in future Nationals. After all, we are all related through swimming. My condolences go out to his family.
