Their medical staff may just be a little more progressive than some other teams. Years ago Lynn Swan took dance lessons and look where he landed (hall of fame).
The Steelers practice fields and operational centers are located in a facility owned by UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) which has a well-known sports medicine facility literally within yards of the Steelers/Pitt Panthers buildings which does quite a bit of research (including stuff on head concusions) and researches new techniques. Let's put it this way--not likely someone will drop a weight on their foot while doing yoga!
The team docs are open to new things. I use at least one of their docs and he's not opposed to alternative medicine to see what is happening. I've given myself Tennis Elbow and the doc said go for a clinical trial on tennis elbow. If it fails--then we can do something more intense.
