I remember back in 1969 the American record for 100 yard breastroke was 1:06 and now Melinda Mann swims a 100 yard breastroke at 46 years old at 1:10. something. Middle age swimmers that have retain a lot of their speed are swimming times close to the best in the mid 1960's and late 1960's. In the past women swimmers were thought to be threw at about 19 years old. No joke here. But some of the master swimmers that have kept themselves up with the sport for several years in some cases are disproving some of those theories. Guy swimmers in the past were thought to be threw at age 23. And some of the men' times in the 40 to 50 year old groups are very good high school times, they could beat swimmers on their son's high school team.
