legged suits for breaststroke?

What is the consensus re: the fastest swim suit for breaststroke? I have tried swimming with the knee length suit and feel that I get resistance on the outside of the thigh as I bring up my legs to kick, then am unable to get a good feel for the water on the inside of the thighs on the completion of the kick. So I use a "legless" suit. I am having second thoughts, however, as I want to use a knee length suit for my freestyle events and am reluctant to buy 2 new suits. Would I go faster with a suit with legs even though it feels worse? Any thoughts? Thanks.
  • Hi Lo. I don't think you'll ever find a "consensus" about bodysuits and breaststroke. Some think that just the action of bringing up the knees tends to "draw in" a lot of water (that may not be readily expelled) into the crotch area so you end up carrying extra weight. Bob Strand swims in a short john bodysuit and seems to do just fine. Hope all is well.
