Is there a "best" swim workout for cardiovascular health? My childhood swimming focused on 100 fly and 200 IM. More recently, I've participated in open water swims and so-called sprint triathlons. Now my schedule only allows a one-hour lap swim once or twice a week. Given one isn't training for a specific event, what is the healthiest way to swim, longer distances, sprints, or a combination of both?

I've always used a combination of sprints and long distances. I think that both do a good job of increasing cardiovascular health, but that burnout results very quickly if you do the same thing all the time.
