What's the feeling out there on this topic? I tend to be partial to post-swim or workout stretching. I've read a lot of material lately on the topic of pre-workout stretching and the opinions are divided. Some say to stretch prior to working out, others say to begin your workout very slowly - easing in and warming up your muscles. Not sure how I feel but pre-workout stretching sure adds a lot of time to my already long workout.
At the Olympic Training Center, the man who lectured us on flexibility said stretch after practice as part of your cool down. He said stretching before your muscles are warmed up risks injury.
