You have a point,
As a fan of swimiming and the university, I just found out about this survey by accident. This is a small gesture to show support to an adminstartion that cut swimming, that thier is intrest in our sport. If you believe it might be a disservice please do not vote. I do not know the intent of the survey, if it is only for fans of the university or fans of the individual sports. Thanks

While I'm all in favor of Masters Swimmers doing what we can to support college swimming, it seems that such a survey is really aimed at getting input from the fans of UO, not the fans of the individual sports. By stuffing the ballot box with votes from a wide spectrum of people who really don't have any ties to UO, we may, in fact, be doing the sport of swimming a disservice.

I've been carrying my Poll Tax receipt which I had payed for in Texas back in 1959, but never got the chance to use since I moved from Houston to Indiana in February of that year. At last I guess that I am entitled to vote for something I believe in, even if it is from out of state. Besides I've got three granddaughters, any of whom could end up at Oregon. I'd hate to have to think that but for lack of one vote that I failed to cast when I had the opportunity and the invitation, the young women attending the University of Oregon would not have the privilege of varsity swimming. They come from all over the world as well as from other states.
People certainly have a right to express opinions -- but we have to consider whether the expression at any given time will be effective or counterproductive. Emmett raises a good point -- one I can vouch for having been in state government for many years. Local officials tend to resent what they perceive as outsiders "butting in." If the poll was meant for Oregonians or UO fans, the appearance of an outside "campaign" will not help and may hurt. Of course decision makers don't pay much attention to on-line polls, anyway, if only because they know the ballot can be stuffed.
