The nearest pool I have to train at, is a 64km drive return journey. I'm finding it very draining to get up and get going. I would appreciate some 'motivation' from fellow dolphins. I'm sure many of you have similar if not worse situations to deal with. Please email me, I would love to hear from you. Dawn

One thing you might consider is buying an endless pool. Its is a small pool that has currents that duplates a regular pool condition. You might use this 2 to 3 times a week. And go to the regular pool 1 to 3 times a week. This cutsdown your travel time. But the endless pools are not cheap. And I have not bought one myself. There is an ad on the masters site for it.

Hey, and I thought I had it bad with only a 4 lane 20metre pool to train in...besides the onerous task of campaigning for a new pool, here's a few things that might help: 1. carpool to the pool - maybe if enough aqua types got together, the politicians would notice...but realisticly, at least you'll have companionship and hopefully motivation to go to the pool and once you get there. 2. go for quality of workouts, being as you can't DO a lot of swim workouts 3. Crosstrain - run, bike, etc. for aerobic and anaerobic effect 4. Work with stretch cords to mimic your swim stroke and build muscle. 5. Plan a holiday around a masters swim camp. As well, whenever you travel, hit the pool...but you probably already do this. Good luck and don't give up!
