Backstroke start advise

I have a quick question regarding the new rule which went into effect back in June. Before the starting gun goes off, one's toes are not allowed to break the water surface. This would definitely prohibit the use of the gutter as a launching perch. Here's the question.....After the start has sounded would one be allowed to make a quick shift of the feet to get a foothold onto the gutter (if there is one)? Even if that be the case, does it make sense to try using the gutter anymore? It would seem that the fraction of a second used towards transitioning the feet from the wall surface to the gutter may not be worth it in the long run. Any advise would be much appreciated. Our workouts don't include any starting block practice which is something I'ld like to focus on in prepartion for a few meets coming up in the Fall.

As I understand the rule, nothing has changed about putting feet in the gutter. You still can't do it. It just allows you to raise your feet up after the start to somewhere between the top of the water and the gutter. Why you would want to do it is another question.
