There's another Southern California coach of the late 1960's to the mid 1970s' who was Jim Montrella of Lakewood. Lakewood was a standout in swimming for women. In fact someone who I swam together in novice back in 1969, made the olympic team her name wa Leli Alofa Fonoimoana in 1976. She swam for Lakewood and so did Susie Atwood and many other ladies of the time.
Well, I like your Popeye cartoon next to your name. As Popeye said,. "I'm strong to the finish because I eat me spanish. I'm Popeye the Sailor men,Pooh-Pooh". And I bet Popeye could do a really good freestyle with those arms.
Yes, Popeye would do "...a really good freestyle with these arms.", faster than me.

And so did Ann Simmons, a world record holder from Lakewood in the 70s, according to a book I have.
Ion, I think that you try harder than many of the masters swimmers. You did placed 10th in the 800 meter. In fact you don't really do any worst than me and I swam as a kid competitvely. Right now my 50 meter breastroke was the only time that made national qualifying time for Cleveland and my 100 meter breastroke still needs a lot of endurance. But at least there are swimmers behind us in our events. We are not in the bottom 5 or 10 in our age groups.

Thank you for your recognition, Cynthia.
The fact is that last year I did 800 meter in 11.20, and this year -even with better workouts- I did it in 11:4x;
it is due to a glitch in my training that happened three weeks before the Cleveland meet, and left me flat.
Starting with today, I am addressing this.
