hi, I'm posting this thread to get some feedback for a calandar I'm putting together for my team...I'd like a variety of masters' comments on what •inspires or motivates you about swimming, or •what realizations or truths swimming has helped you see. I may use some of your quotes (with or without your name/usms forum user name, as you request) as a "thought for the day" idea. So please don't reply unless you don't mind being quoted! By the way, this is a not-for-profit team handbook project. I'll be very gratefull for any feedback you send. I thought other forum readers might enjoy the comments, too. Thanks! Lexa:)

Jeff - the complete saying goes thusly: "The faster you swim, the more rest you get which, of course, allows you to swim even faster, allowing even more rest which, allows you to go EVEN faster...it's kinda like a snowball going downhill."

Collin Powell's 13 Rules: 1) It ain't as bad as you think. It will look better in the morning. 2) Get mad, then get over it. 3) Avoid having your ego so close to your position that when you position falls, your ego goes with it. 4) It can be done! 5) Be careful what you chose. You may get it. 6) Don't let adverse facts stand in the way of a good decision. 7) You can't make someone else's choices. You shouldn't let someone else make yours. 8) Check small things. 9) Share credit. 10) Remain calm. Be kind. 11) Have a vision. Be demanding. 12) Don't take counsel of your fears or naysayers. 13) Perpetual optimism is a force multiplier. I think a lot of this applies to masters swimming. Matt

  • I read this on this board once and it works for me at meets: "You don't know if you're a winner, if you don't walk into the arena"

A couple of my favorites: 1. Age is but only a number. If you think old, you will be old. ;) 2. Rest is rust. :( 3. Nothing beats a failure better than an attempt. :D
