Shoulder vs High Elbow pulling

I have seen both kinds of strokes explained at theraceclub my quesiton is 1) when you initiate EVF you do it at the palm pulling down? I can also instead of pulling with my elbow, keep my elbow high, and pull with my shoulder. or should I pull with my elbow and lats so is high elbow pull with my rear delts/traps or with my LATs?
