Hello! My son is swimming the mile in a championship meet this weekend. It’s an open mile, but broke in two groups (event 28A- 14U and 28B- 15O). They’re also awarded into those two groups. Here’s my confusion.
My son is seeded 10th overall, but 7th fastest in the 15 over portion. The entry letter says: *The 1650 Freestyle is to be conducted on a timed finals basis with only the fastest seeded heat, top 8 times not indicating a prelim swim, to swim in finals. All other heats are to be held in the Preliminaries, swimming fastest to slowest. The event will be swum as a COMBINED timed final event (14 & U and Open) and will be awarded as 14 & Under and 15 & Over.
So my question is, can he still make it on the podium for his age group? 3 of 8 of the final heat are 14 under so just trying to understand how awards work. Or do only the top 8 going in get awards, so 3 kids get an award for 14U and 5 kids get awarded for 15O?
