Freestyle snorkel is a harsh mistress.Regular snorkel first?

Just bought a freestyle snorkel. Not going well. Longest I've gone without sucking water is about 10 yards. Usually, it's about five. I'm just doing the most basic exercise with it: lying facedown in fins and kicking. Should I buy a more forgiving snorkel as a stepping-stone, or should I, forgive the pun, just suck it up?

  • I had never heard of one, but now that I look at them, I like it. IMHO, you could benefit from one, but it is only half the equation. Get a tennis ball, and hold it against your chest with your chin. That'll keep your head down, and probably keep water out of the snorkel. That should get your head positioning correct.
