Just bought a freestyle snorkel. Not going well. Longest I've gone without sucking water is about 10 yards. Usually, it's about five. I'm just doing the most basic exercise with it: lying facedown in fins and kicking.
Should I buy a more forgiving snorkel as a stepping-stone, or should I, forgive the pun, just suck it up?

I missed the part about the freestyle snorkel. I haven't used it but have never heard anything good about it. When the OP mentioned trying a different snorkel I thought he meant a side-mount and that would definitely be no good.
