Can I join a Masters team at 17.5, or do I have to wait until I'm 18? I am not a good swimmer, although I'm swimming summer league now. I will be attending college and would like to keep improving and regularly practice throughout the year.
While it is true you must be 18 to join, I'd still check with the group at the school. They may allow non-masters swimmers to workout with them (they may not due to insurance reasons too). If they do, you can get your workouts in and then join masters as soon as you turn 18. You are our next generation and we need youth within our ranks. Just keep swimming.
I'm not sure if this is technically allowed but if the club has an age group program I know some have let swimmers registered as age group swimmers train with their masters club.
