What's the worst thing(s) that happened to you at a swim meet? I have a pretty nice list.
I had a problem with keeping my goggles on. Dive off the blocks, hit the water and pop off they go. So I had to swim a 100 free blinded. lol Not a good time.
Accidentally did a freestyle kick after a breaststroke turn...oops! DQ'd.
I remember my first time in a meet, first time using my stupid little speedo. Hated that thing. Anyways...I was REALLY paranoid...I was so scared it'd come off when I dove in. So the WHOLE 100 meters, every single stroke I'd check to see if it was still there. lol Slowed me down big time!
Ok...off the topic of swim meet and onto practice...
First practice, did a couple 25s, a couple 50s...tired, but ok. Then we did a 100. That did it. Pushed me over the edge. Had to run to the bathroom. Got sick. lol I only told 2 people. My coach and my ex-g/f who was also on siwm team with me. At the end of the year we got awards. The Most Improved swimmer was next. The coach started by saying "This swimmer went from throwing up to actually beating some people..." Soon as "throwing up" was said, THE ENTIRE ROOM OF 100+ PEOPLE LOOKED AT ME. AHHHHHHH! Man was my face RED! I got that award and the Coach's award for being "all around great person". Ugh...I can't believe EVERYONE knew!!!

The worst thing that ever happened to me at a swim meet happened at the long course nationals in Fort Lauderdale a few years ago.
I got up on the wrong starting block, forgetting that the pool was ten lanes wide. When I realized my mistake I quickly jumped down and got up on the correct block. Unfortunately, when I jumped down, I landed on the concrete pool deck and broke my heel.
I swam a great race (200 *** - fastest time since I was 16), and it wasn't until I got out of the water that I realized I had a problem. The EMTs iced it, and I was hobbling around from then on - though I did swim another event. When I got home I went to the orthopedic guy who xrayed it, declared it broken, and had me non-weight-bearing on crutches for the next month.
Worst thing that happened to me at swim practice:
Early morning swim practice is usually held before the sun comes up. One morning when the pool was long course I went to retrieve my kick board so I could do a bit of kicking. I noticed that their seemed to be a dark rectangular something on the kick board.
I don't see all that well without glasses, but somehow I sensed that I shouldn't pick this thing up, so I tried to toss it up on the pool deck. Alas, I missed and the rectangular something landed in the pool, and STARTED SWIMMING LIKE CRAZY!! It was a big rat!!
My most embarrassing time........I usually don't swim *** stroke. For some reason I was signed up to swim a 50 ***. I started off the blocks, swam 1/2 the length of the pool doing freestyle until I realized I was WAY ahead of the other swimmers, who were swimming ***. Needless to say, I was DQ'd. Never have raced *** since.
Although it didn't happen to me (I swear!), a friend completing a SC 200 Back lost count of what length he was on (at my age I can relate to this - one of the reasons I avoid SC 200's).
Anyway, thinking he had two more laps to do when he was really coming to the end in what was shaping up to be a good time, he turned onto his front for his flip turn - and was disqualified for not finishing on his back.
I lost one of my contacts before a high-school meet. I had to swim with none. It was a disaster. When I went to do a flip turn, I chipped my tooth on the wall! Ouch!
