  • Indiana had 12 swimmers and 4 divers.
  • The swimming was berzerk and kicked off by the fellow on the 10 meter tower who, at the beginning of the meet, played the stars spangled banner...trumpet..and then did a full gainer tuxedo and all.... I remember back when I was an age group - maybe 13 years old so 16 years ago? - I was at a meet in Minnesota and somebody did that. My mother took a lot of pictures. I wonder if it was the same guy. Indiana had 12 swimmers and 4 divers. 8 individual swimmers - Pieroni, Finnerty, Lanza, Blaskovic, Khalafalla, Brock, Samy, Fantoni. They swam Romany as a relay-only guy in the 200 FR but I think that was the only relay-only guy they used. For comparison, Cal had 17, Texas 15, Florida 14, NC State 12.
  • Saw blaskovic at hotel after the final final..said he was reeeealy tired..they did well. They had fabulous divers as well, as they have in the past. ..
  • Skip, took your advice. ..went to the mens ncaa championships...indescribable. .sarah t That's great that you could go. Its such an exciting meet with outstanding swimming and it does not drag on beyond 4 days and usually people see the last 3 days. Its sounds like you had a great time.
  • I did see a note in the ticker tape on ESPN that Texas had won the meet on Sunday Morning but that was about it.
  • Yes, their depth might hurt them, but it is nothing short of amazing to think that Indiana is so close in the hunt with, I think, only 8 swimmers and 1 diver. Their points per person ratio is off the charts. Gotta believe this is going to be huge for their recruiting. Between how their men are swimming here, how well Lily King and their women did, and how well Zane Grothe is doing in their post-grad program, you know their recruiting efforts will yield more in the future. They are definitely a team on the rise - although losing Pieroni and Khalafalla plus Hixon from diving will be pretty big shoes to replace. They do have a good recruiting class coming in, 47.9/1:46 flyer, 4:19/14:35 and 4:25/15:05 distance guys, 20.1 and 19.7/43.4 sprinters. That's not enough to keep up with Texas or Florida or Stanford's monster recruiting classes (though Florida is losing almost everything).
  • Impressive for Texas to pull off the win despite not being in the top three in any relay. Texas was lucky it's swimming AND diving! My former teammate Abrahm DeVine had a dominant swim to win the 400 IM.
  • hey PWB, is Kostoff still the distance coach at IU? i talked to him quite a bit when he was at our pool trying to recruit SG that swam the 500/400im/1650 for Cal
  • thanks! that kinda explains the 500/400im results but while their 1650 guys were barely off...they were still off such brutally tough results as an example: 5th place from 2016 olympic trails in 400im got to watch the night swim of it at ncaa's this year with his best yds time.
