Hi everyone,
I am French man 51 years old and I present you a new underwater stroke named "Atlantis" to swim like and with the Dolphins. This is not a "Dolphin Kick" stroke, because arms are propulsive in the body undulation.
Dolphin Kick is more speed than Atlantis after the starting push, but without this push, Atlantis stroke is more speed.
For example, if you swim a 25m underwater in Olympic swimming pool without push on the wall, Atlantis is the fastest. You can do the test to verify that.
You can see the videos
50m Atlantis in 25m swimming pool (not 25 yards) in 26.80 without training at 30 years old and my size is only 1.70m.
My best time in Olympic pool is 25.21 with Atlantis stroke and 27.30 with front crawl. 20m Dolphin kick for start added to 30m Atlantis for finish in the 50m underwater will permit to swim under 20 seconds.
50m in 26.80

100m in 1.04.50 but a already swam under 1'00.

Yes I know, this is not a classic swimming surface, but you can use in your training for a better hypoxia capacity. A kind of butterfly underwater.

I think this new race underwater will not belong to the FINA, but unattached and free organization related to the AIDA, apnea federation.
Enjoyed the abstract, thanks. I am mostly glad however that stumbled across this thread earlier. It has been beneficial in allowing me to swim while recovering from shoulder surgery. At 3 months post op I was also able to enjoy swimming over reefs while vacationing. I used a variation hybrid surface/UW Atlantis kick which included front mounted snorkel and board fins.
. It will, of course get you get you DQd as you are going over15M underwater and going back under after you surface.
IIRC (and I might not) there was a discussion here about underwater races a few years ago. I believe that idea was rejected various organizing bodies for competition with the idea that if you pushed yourself as hard as you could for 50 yards underwater, there would a higher-than-acceptable risk of drowning.
If you use fins or monofin, use also paddle. With this you can practice Atlantis and "crawl ondulation".
Crawl ondulation is like that: Two or five ondulations with your arms in hyperstreamline above your head and for breathing one arm front crawl.
No snorkel needed. Better for your hypoxia capacity.
What are the risks involved if this becomes popular? I can see the benefits as there is no surface drag. But the risk of drowning (especially in a 50 meter pool) may be too great.
Wait.....did I see someone face-up in that last video? We need a new thread!!
Am I wrong in thinking that this is for very accomplished swimmers only? Shmucks like me will have to make-do with the 4 strokes, unless we become otherworldly?
Anyway....fascinating thread/vids. Thanks for this.
