2017 Worlds

Can we/should we set up a new Forum section for the 2017 World Championship in Budapest? Thanks!
  • Austinpoolboy: Do you think we should have a separate thread altogether or just build off of this one? The reason I ask is that I am the "International Coaches" lead for the USMS Coaches Committee and have some responsibility for getting things started...from a coaching-standpoint anyway. Where would you like to see the 2017 Worlds thread and what would you like to see included? Mark
  • Here's a link to the host site where you might be able to find some of your answers. I'll keep a list of questions to pass on to the selected coaches. masters.fina-budapest2017.com/en Mark
  • Mark, how about hotel(s) info distance/ease of access to pool from hotel(s) food distances as well from pool/hotel(s) from airport to hotel(s) should we expect 9600 bodies again like 2012 italy or less? steve

  • Can we/should we set up a new Forum section for the 2017 World Championship in Budapest? Thanks! for what it is worth, there is a thread under "Nationals" entitled Budapest 2017
  • 12000 ?? ?Do they limit entries per event? How on earth does that work in a 24 hours day? You have your work cut out for you my friend.
  • 600 people at 5 entries each is 3000....thats nothing 12000 entries would be just 2400 people and barely bigger than the typical usms spring nationals. there is no way they mean 12,000 people x5 = 60,000 entries. 2012 italy had 9,700 people and it lasted 8am to midnight everyday. the mens 100 free had 2200 people in it and lasted over 9hrs for that 1 event. italy wasnt so much of a swim meet, but more of an endurance event with lots of time management required
  • They actually mean over 12,000 ATHLETES. Here is a cute and paste from the website: "Currently, the Italian city of Riccione holds the attendance record of the Event: 12 671 athletes competed there in 2012. Based on the forecasts, Budapest and Balatonfüred can outshine this number. Since the registration platform – the FINA General Management System – opened just a week ago, more than 2500 people started the process on-line sign-up process." There are a couple of things worthy of mention: these numbers may include swimming, polo, diving, synchro, and open water. It is also worth mentioning that there are multiple pools being used at more than one location. In fact, it appears that you could be involved in two different events that could be going off at different facilities at the same time. At any rate, it could be interesting.
  • Agreed: They are expecting over 12,000 ATHLETES! This message was from Katalin Sass of the FINA Organizing Committee regarding the sites: "There will be two pools in Dagály Aquatics Arena, for 25-54 years old competitors, and will be two pools on Margaret island The Hajós Alfred Complex, for 55-100 years old competitors. So there will be four pools in all for the events. Identical events will be going on in all pools." Her e-mail address is katalin.sass@fina-budapest2017.com. So, you should not have to worry about being at two difference facilities.
