I agree. I prefer to swim in temps where I'm comfortable after a lap or two. Maybe down to mid-60s in summertime open water, but nothing lower than that. Even channel swimmers (English and otherwise) are generally operating in water temps no lower than the mid-to-high 50s, I think.
I couldn't do it - but I admire them, I think. I do like the statement: “It’s the one time it’s great to be fat,” So you'd think I'd be good at it but below 62, without a strong sun, I can't possibly last more than a few minutes.
