When I was a kid, we had hard, very buoyant tombstone kickboards. My favorites wore down to be very smooth and thye had white writing on them. They were larger than the firm ones they seem to offer at Kiefer etc. now. Does anyone know if they still make these, and where I might get one?
If you don't know where to get one, you can just feel the nostalgia with me...
I have some of the "new" boards. That being said -- I don't use them any more. I fly kick on my back and just kick harder in other strokes without using them.
Kiefer claims that theirs is the same, or sells it under a similar marque, but it doesn't have the flat bottom. I don't think it's the same ultra-floaty material, either.
The old ones made a nice sound when they fell on the deck--the new ones make a thunk. Not the same thing.
If anyone has one they'd sell, I'm buying.
I have a couple of them at least 25 yr. old.I don't use them as kickboards however. For some reason I took one bodysurfing. It was great, waves were easier to catch, I could steer, but I was still in the water instead of on it like with a boogie board.
One of my college teammates threw an Ocean kickboard completely over the length of a 50 meter pool on one of our winter training trips. It was amazing. :)
There is just one of these kickboards at the local YMCA. It's old, missing a couple bite-sized chunks on the side, and it is ugly and vomit green. And I love that thing. Really need to Grand Theft Auto that thing but there is no way it would fit into my mesh bag.
Pretty sure it has a dolphin on it; can't really read the brand name as it has faded so much.
