Shocked by 100 Yard Breaststroke Time

This is now my third post to this board. Today I did a self time in my pool of my 100 yard Breaststroke. First off, let me make it clear that the pool I have been working in is a strange, old one. It actually measures out to 100 feet long and has 4 lanes. All along I thought it was 25 meters long so all my workouts have been longer than I thought. When I have been swimming my 10 X 500's each set has been 2000 feet instead of 1500 feet. If you follow that example, 10 to 13 of these sets equal nearly 4 and 5 mile workouts. Tomorrow I am doing my first Masters coached workout and I am very excited about this. Now back to the 100 Breaststroke swim. I used my G Shock to time myself. Since there is no diving allowed in this pool I pushed off the wall. When I was completed and looked at my watch my time was 1:07 so I assume with a stopwatch I may have done a little better. After that, I thought to myself not bad for an almost 55 year old fart! Needless to say, I expect to only improve on this with a real coach who will work me properly and I am very excited about this. Anyway, I thought this was worthy of a post. Greg

Hey guys and gals I am very embarrassed to say that I must do a complete retraction on this post. This morning I went and measured the pool with a tape measure and it is on fact 75 feet long. So now I need to refigure the distances in my workouts. In the middle of the week I will redo a proper 100 yard Breaststroke and post my time. To be totally honest I will be happy with anything in the 1:30's to start. So, eating crow on this post. Today I did swim a 5,325 yard swim. Saturday was 2,100 yards of sprints with the local Masters club. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  • Heck, I'll take 1:07 for a 50! Never did understand that stroke...
  • We will wait on the 25 yard time .
  • I swim in a 100 ft pool. That is crazy fast for a 100 ***. That is one less wall than a 25 yard pool. With a dive and the extra wall, you should be down around the minute mark.
  • Oh, I just saw the rest of the thread........still good for 75 yards!
  • Don't sweat it, a similar thing happened to me when I got back into the sport a couple years ago after a 27 year layoff. I got a bit chesty when I thought I was hitting USMS Summer Nationals Qualifying Times in practice after only 3 months of working out solo 3-4 times a week for less than an hour. Then came the realization that I was swimming in a 25 yard long pool, not a 25 meter long pool. (In my youth, every YMCA pool I ever swam at was Meters so I though they were all that way .) My blog entry was titled "An Embarrassing, Confidence Shaking Realization".
  • Yes, it is a real difference from yards to meters. It does not sound like much, but distance does change the time outcome.
