Thanx for the 2004 world masters information about Italy, more specifically it turns out to be Riccione. However, my world atlas does not seem to recognize the name. Can anyone out there mention a nearby city or airport?
Thanx.
Where is Riccione? Well Doug, it ain't easy to find! Not that I'm planning to go, but I was curious, and well, it beat working! I surfed around for quite awhile and finally found it on a map at expedia.com. It's on the Adriatic Coast, and it looks to me like the closest airport would probably be Florence, about 150 km away. Seems to be a resort town, and some of the information I ran across claimed it has the world's largest disco!

Thanx, both Meg and Julie. It's a little early to book a flight, but might as well make tentative plans, 'specially having had to pass up New Zealand. Did anyone else notice that both of youse claim UK for your own? But different UK's (like University of Kentucky and United Kingdom). Who doesn't believe in coincidences?
Just south of Rimini on the East coast! I know there is an airport in Ancona (south again) and Bologna (North).
www.ryanair.com do cheap flights to these destinations from UK. Don't know whether this info helps you guys though!
And to those interested already, a little more about Riccione according to my newly discovered atlas. It is exactly on the 44th parallel on the east coast of Italy. It seems to be only a stone's throw away from both Rimini and the Independent Republic of San Marino, as well from an airport which would seem to serve all three with only a few minute's drive. My 1948 Encyclopedia Brittanica says that San Marino's area is 38 square miles and had a population of 14,500 at that time. Sounds interesting!
