Starting Over

Shoulder surgery has kept me out of the pool for five months. I now have the go-ahead from my doc to start swimming, but I'm afraid I've lost my sewing mojo. There was a point not long ago when I couldn't wait to get back into the pool, but for some reason it seems like I'm starting all over again. When I had to stop, I was swimming a mile several times a week (for me that's a lot), but now I'm thinking I'll be good to make it one lap. I also had a bad onset of vertigo recently and I'm worried that it might come back when I swim. Though I think it was swimming that kept it from happening for so long. If anyone has been through a long layoff, I'd like to hear how you motivated yourself to get back to the pool.
  • Glad to see you are back in Denise. I've had a few "breaks" too (one of them was my leg, and other too much work) and lost motivation - it seems tougher in the winter to reset the go button. But if I can do it so can you. Try something new (pool, suit, team, toys, workout, etc.) - changing it up seems to help get going. Wishing you the best.
  • See - I told you water is your friend.
  • You're a smart guy, orca1946. And I appreciate your words more than I can say.
  • The biggest challenge was just getting in and out of the pool without a ladder, but I've been able to do that, so yesterday I swam again, just seven laps, and with lots of breaks, but it feels like it's coming back. My DH asked how much of the pool I inhaled, and I was proud to say, none. Thank you all for your support and encouragement - next stop is a new suit and some cool goggles.
