Hi Guys, I have a doubt to buy a new competition jammer to my son. He is specialist in 100m breaststroke, 100m freestyle and 50 freestyle. He will have an important competition on the next week and I would like to have your opinion about the best jammer for him. We have a doubt between Arena Carbon Flex or Speedo LZR X. Which one is better for him? Please, help me guys, I will buy based on your opinion. Thanks a lot and good swimming for all! Regards, Rafael Montello
  • I like the Arena better than the Speedo. Don't down size the Arena, they are plenty tight at the measured size.

I can't help you much with the LZR X model as it is a recent one by Speedo. However based on the overall quality of their previous models I would recommend you Arena. As Allen mentioned you in earlier post, you must pay great attention on sizing issues of Arena. You must try to stick with the recommended sizing. And initially it will be extremely hard to wear. When I was ordering for my kid (girl) technical suits of Arena I had to make exchange 4 times before finding the right size due difficulties on wearing the suit over the hips, which could be also an issue for a boy. And this exchanges cost me a lot of money for courier shipping services, i.e. each exchange cost me around 90$ (return and deliver), cause I was ordering from another country. Based on the races your son is going to swim I would tell that for a breaststroke Flex would be more comfortable to wear due its flexibility in the legs, but for a freestyles the Arena Carbon Pro would be more appropriate, cause it has greater compression on the hips. Now having bought 3 types of suits for my kids: Carbon Pro, Carbon Air and LZR 2 elite, I'd say in terms of fit Carbon Air is most good one, in terms of compression Pro is better. Unfortunately I cannot say anything good about the LZR 2 elite, cause it's a paper thin suit and my kid didn't like it, cause she feels it may tear up very easily and it has loosen up during the second wear in a regional competition. At the end I'd say that it doesn't matter at all what kind of suit you're gonna buy for your kid (LZR X or Flex), so let him choose what he likes in terms of design and color. Cause it only gives a little morale boost on the blocks the first time he wears it. Nothing else. I was sure before that technical suit would give some advantage, but then I realized I was wrong. My kid does the same time with or without those technical suits, no matter what those fancy ads tell you.
