Swimmers in Trouble

Swimmers in Trouble is a thread to discuss the troubles of elite PRO swimmers and other adult swimmers if there's something newsworthy, let's keep kids out of this. Troubles with the law, FINA, USA Swimming, WADA, & other governing bodies. I'd prefer we share and discuss factual news based topics. This is not a thread to slander, bash or troll. Phelps DWI & the fall out could be good to discuss or what about Park Issues Apology After Receiving FINA’s Doping Suspension "Park would be eligible for competition again on March 3rd, 2016, which, in theory, would enable the four-time individual Olympic medalist to compete at the 2016 Rio Olympics. However, there is what seems to be a subjective domestic rule within the Korean Swimming Federation’s constitution, which tacks on an additional 3-year suspension for a national athlete to begin at the end of the FINA-mandated disciplinary period." What do you think about tacking on an extra 3 years? I'm certain over the years we'll have plenty to share & discuss.

  • Unless an athlete has positive proof that that their positive test was due to inadvertent use(which I suppose has happened, maybe) their suspension should be at least long enough to miss at least one Olympics.Anything else really has no teeth.A 16 mo suspension doesn't keep anyone out of the water or from training, only from competing. If you get to compete in the event you want by stopping cheating 16 mo before, where is the incentive to not cheat prior to that?
